Are you looking for a great lake vacation this summer? Maybe you are tired of the beach house or city breaks. Then Lake Tahoe, California is the perfect place for you. It’s even as good in the winter! You can grab a ticket for some of the water sports here in summer or for winter fun you can try your hand at some snowboarding or skiing too. If you’re considering something a little different from the usual vacation, I’ve put together eight great things about this border lake including some information on Lake Tahoe vacation rentals.
1. Book some nice accommodation
It’s worth spending those extra few dollars to get yourself somewhere nice like the vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe. Nearly all of these rentals have a great view so you’re in for a treat. The scenery is running in these luxurious rentals. What’s better than waking up to a beautiful lake view on your vacation?
2. There are two sides to every lake!
Being a border lake, Lake Tahoe rests between the states of Nevada and California. This brings a uniqueness to the place as each side has a different vibe. Typically, the California side of the lake is more so for relaxing and enjoying the peacefulness. Whereas Nevada is littered with casinos and entertainment around the clock! So, maybe do your relaxing and then go to have fun or vice versa.
3. Go cycling
Get your exercise in with some cycling on your trip. You won’t feel the time passing by as you enjoy the beautiful surroundings and scenery. You can hire a bicycle and many people do this highly enjoyable activity during the summer months. It’s one great way to move around the lake as you enjoy nature. Tip: Take enough food and water with you and pack your camera or phone to capture those sights.
4. Road tripping
Maybe cycling isn’t for you or maybe you are spending a week long vacation at Lake Tahoe. That’s great as you could also go on a road trip. The lake is surrounded by several towns, each varying in their own local charms and customs. So if you have the time, it’s definitely worth exploring the surrounding towns.
5. Rent a jet ski
During the warmer months of the year, water sports on the lake are popular. Rent out a jet ski on the lake. If jet skis aren’t your thing, then you can always rent a kayak or go sailing either. There’s an abundance of equipment rental companies. If water sports aren’t your thing, maybe some simple good old swimming in the lake is for you. Many visitors will join you.
6. Watch the sunset
Watching the sunset over a lake is one of life’s great pleasures. Whether you have a stunning view from your balcony, sipping on some wine with your spouse or sat on the lake’s edge with a nice cold beer, watching the sunset on this amazing lake is not to be missed. If you are an early bird, catch the sun on the rise the morning after too!
7. Go hiking
The wonderful lake is hidden among the mountains. Some of these mountains have walking trails and you can hike as much as you want. Many visitors to the lake will come just for the hiking! If you do go hiking, try to stick with the designated trails and tell whoever’s visiting with you of your whereabouts. Oh, and it’s important to note that there are real bears living in these mountains! Fear not. Most of them are harmless and might only approach you for food.
8. Do some winterskiing
For the more daring of visitors, skiing and learning how to ski or snowboard in the winter time are other great activities available at the lake. Around January, the snow has fallen and compacted so it makes it ideal for skiing. Renting equipment and doing lessons are a plenty so don’t worry if you haven’t got the gear or the know-how! Let the professionals take care of you and train you up to hit the slopes.
