According to the Rwanda tourist guide planning for the improvement of the Rwanda city roads, hundreds of members of the public have provided input on numerous design innovations, landscaping, public art and other elements of the roadway. Businesses and residents have also helped develop strategies to enhance the sustainability and vitality of businesses and residential areas along city roads. When complete, the city roads will greatly improve Rwanda’s mobility from the city to other parts of the country especially those with genocide memorials.
Besides new and wider sidewalks, more signalized crosswalks, improved bicycle lanes, and enhanced landscaping will all greatly improve both the pedestrian and bicyclist use and the appearance of city Roads. A median and managed access to businesses will improve safety, and new local access lanes will provide a safer and easier way to get to and from residences and businesses in congested areas plus tourism destinations.
Due to the implementation of the road improvement plan, several city roads were blocked for a while around the city. Thus Kigali city effectively blocked some of the main roads leading into the city center as a measure of giving way to the ongoing construction.
To ensure stability of Rwanda travellers, Aimable Gasana Ndakengerwa, city Director General said that the construction of other 103.8 kilometre stretch will commence in July. Alternatively by June next year, over 145 kilometres of tarmac roads in several parts of the city will be complete. However, action should be taken by each state to formulate a Road development and renovation year Plan in the light of recommendation of the Vision document like Rwanda.
